BIALYSTOK, Poland. July 23 (PSN) – Lechia Gdansk started off on a good note by taking 3 points from an away trip in the first round of the 2018/2019 LOTTO Ekstraklasa season.
After an incredibly disappointing past season that could had almost turned to tragedy with the club being relegated, Lechia now look to write their wrongs in this new season. Going up against vice-champions Jagiellonia in Bialystok for their first game was no easy task to conquer. However, Lechia somehow managed to pull through against all odds and bag themselves 3 points in the season opener. Flavio Paixao scored early on in the 10th minute of the match after a great setup play by Lukas Haraslin that saw the Portuguese tap in a direct pass into the goal box from the Slovak. Despite this, Jaga were the more dangerous side and attempted to respond at each opportunity. In the end, their lack of finishing along with defender Guilherme picking up a red card from a technical foul hurt their chances to equalize. Lechia did also see their own Slawomir Peszko get red carded for a senseless tackle in the 90th minute, but by then the Lechisci had already slowed down the game enough to see out the dying minutes on a win.
