LOTTO Ekstraklasa Round 20: Late Goals Prevent Christmas Break Disaster for Legia

SOSNOWIEC, Poland. December 24 (PSN) – Legia found themselves in quite the unexpected surprise during their 3:2 win in Sosnowiec in the twentieth round of the 2018/2019 LOTTO Ekstraklasa season.

In a game that gave the Legion more trouble then they had bargained for, Ricardo Sa Pinto’s side had to rely on two late minute goals and a little luck to pull off a win against last place Zaglebie Sosnowiec. An early shocking goal from Piotr Polczak forced Legia to open up their play and attempt to respond with a goal of their own. As by no means could they had lost points to the minnow side and allow leaders Lechia Gdansk to gain even more distance from them. When Legia did score back just after the half, Zaglebie took the opportunity and fired a goal of their own to immediately reclaim the lead a few seconds afterwards. What followed next was constant pressuring and attacking from the away side, but Zaglebie didn’t budge and held down the lead against the capital club formidably. All until the final minutes of the game, where things took a turn in Legia’s favor. Zaglebie’s position in the table began to reflect in their poor decision making, that in turn saw defensive mistakes result in two late goals scored by Adam Hlousek and Sandro Kulenovic. In the end, the tension and determination from Legia saw them avoid what could had most definitely been a disaster for the Warsaw outfit right before the Christmas break.
