SZCZECIN, Poland. February 25 (PSN) – Tomas Podstawski has declared his intention to play for the Poland national team if given the chance.

The Pogon Szczecin midfielder in a recent interview during the Liga+ Extra television program expressed his new will to play for the bialo-czerwoni.

“I’ve played my whole life in Portugal. I was born and raised there. My mother is Portuguese, my father is Polish. I love Poland too. Everyone also would like to play on the national team, in international matches. I am not an exception in this regard. If hypothetically the national team coach would call me up, I would not turn it down.” said the 24-year-old when asked about his decision whether he would like to represent Poland or not.

Podstawski was previously a regular for the youth Portugal national setup and made it no secret that he would had liked to continue that going into the senior team.

Since signing with Pogon last August, the Polish-Portuguese has gained a new appreciation for his father’s homeland and told media back in December that he would likely decide his international future in the new year.

With his decision to play for Poland if offered a call-up now clear, Jerzy Brzeczek should not hesitate in now viewing the Pogon player as a new valuable midfield option. However, Podstawski still has yet to receive his Polish citizenship, which for the time being makes him ineligible from playing with the white eagle over his chest.

Fortunately, the player revealed that he is in the processing of acquiring citizenship and should be receiving it soon.
