LOTTO Ekstraklasa Round 24: 9-man Wisla Plock Cancel Cracovia’s Miracle Spree

PLOCK, Poland. March 4 (PSN) – Wisla Plock ended Cracovia’s winning spree in the twenty-fourth round of the 2018/2019 LOTTO Ekstraklasa season.

In a rare occurrence in any league in the world, Wisla Plock defeated Cracovia Krakow 3:2, having even scored the winning goal with only 9 players on the field! Cracovia came into the game as the favourites, enjoying a successful 7-game winning spree in defeating such clubs as Lech Poznan, Legia Warsaw, and Jagiellonia Bialystok.  However, in Plock Michal Probierz’s side experienced a far more physical and tougher game than they had expected. Plock dominated the first half, with a superb goal from Grzegorz Kuswik to put the home side in the lead. After the half, the tables seemingly had turned with Cracovia starting to pick up the pace, now taking advantage of both Wisla’s mistakes and showing strong composure. As a result, the Plock outfit conceded twice in both goals and red cards, seeing themselves with only 9 men on the field and attempting to hold down the tie. In the end, that only motivated the Nafciarze to play with more intensity and urgency. In the final minute of the match, Wisla’s constant pushing forward earned themselves a penalty kick, which saw captain Dominik Furman cooly score the winning goal just seconds from the final whistle.
